This year is the 175th anniversary of the Village of Union Springs and the 200th anniversary of the Town of Springport.
Both the town and the village will celebrate these milestones this Friday. Village Mayor Robert Thurston told Finger Lakes News Radio what attendees can expect.
“This Friday evening will have some representatives from the State of New York and the county on site as we kick off the evening,” Thurston said. “Then we’ll have some food trucks and craft vendors, and then we’ll end the evening with some live music from Bad JuJu.”
For Thurston, the 175th anniversary is also a celebration of the village’s transformation and growth over the years.
“It’s been special to see all the changes the village has gone through over the years,” Thurston added. “It’s especially special to see that the village is making such a great comeback; the historic downtown district is almost completely full of businesses, and there’s just been a lot of interest from community members, and outside the community, people coming into the village, so it’s really been great exciting to see it happen.”
The celebrations begin at 4:30p at Union Springs’ Frontenac Park. If you plan on attending, you’re encouraged to wear red, white, and blue.
