Efforts are underway to replace the aging scoreboard at one Cayuga County park.
Chad Holmberg is the President of the Union Springs Lions Club. He told Finger Lakes News Radio that the club is seeking to raise $18,000 to install a new scoreboard at the Frontenac Park ball field in Union Springs. He added that the idea came about following a conversation with the mayor.
“We just worked on Phase III of the playground at Frontenac Park with the mayor, Rob [Thurston], down in Union Springs, so, after the Lions Club finished working with them on Phase III, Rob had approached me and said he was looking to update the scoreboard. And, given that it’s been thirty years, if you saw the thing, it certainly needs it.”
According to Holmberg, the park’s current sign was donated to the village by the Sons of the American Legion Post 1107 approximately 30 years ago.
The fundraiser kicked off in February at the club’s annual Super Bowl pancake breakfast; however, Holmber said donations are still needed to reach the $18,000 goal.
