One area fire department is adding another truck to its fleet.
The Springport Fire District ha ordered a new tanker truck that will be used by the Union Springs Fire Department. Chief Garret Waldron spoke with Finger Lakes News Radio the new Rosenbauer tanker can serve multiple roles for the department, especially in rural areas.
“It’s got a 3,000 gal tank along with a 1500 GPM pump on it, which is a large pump,” Waldron said. “That truck can be used as a dual-role truck, as a pumper and a tanker if we have to.”
Waldron added that the over $600,000 investment keeps in line with the department’s goal of rotating their trucks out every 30 years.
“We’re replacing a 1995 International truck with this tanker that we’ll get delivered in the late summer of 2025, so it’s going to be a 30-year cycle on this truck. This truck is going to last 30 years; that’s what we rotate our tracks out at,” he continued.
Including boats and smaller vehicles, the department has a fleet of 12 vehicles.
