Unity House is pleased to announce that two new community members have been added to the nonprofit’s board of directors.

Auburn residents Taylor Symes and Jessica Jannsen have joined the board, officially taking up their respective duties in November.

“I’m always excited when we welcome new people to our board,” CEO Liz Smith said. “Jessica has experience with our organization and similar agencies, and understands programs, services, and regulations. Taylor is a young professional who will bring a new perspective to the board. She’s in the early stages of her career, and I think this position will be mutually beneficial.”

Symes is a licensed benefits consultant for AFLAC and a sales rep for Peaceful Living Home Sales. She had previously worked as a credit analyst for Generations Bank and as a technical specialist for Cayuga Economic Development Agency. Symes has an AAS from Cayuga Community College.

Janssen is a former manager and board member for Unity House, serving on the board from 2015-2023. She serves as the chief executive officer at Cayuga Addiction Recovery Services and a transformation specialist at Cayuga Medical Center. Janssen holds a Masters Degree in organizational management.

Founded in Auburn in 1977, Unity House provides services to those with mental illnesses, developmental disabilities, and/or substance use disorders in Cayuga, Onondaga, Ontario, Oswego, Seneca, Tioga, Tompkins, and Wayne Counties.
