The first of a series of five posters will soon launch, highlighting historical figures from Cayuga County.
In honor of Harriet Tubman Week, Tour Cayuga is offering posters depicting the famed abolitionist in front of the AME Zion Church on Parker Street in Auburn.
Throughout her 50-plus years in the city, Tubman attended services at the church, and her memorial service was held there after she died in 1913. The site will also host the Harriet Tubman National Historical Park, set to open later this year.
“Cayuga County has solid historical roots that are important to national history. We’re so proud to tell the story of the prominent individuals and the locations that tell their stories,” said Karen Kuhl, Executive Director of the Cayuga County Office of Tourism. “The Historical Figures poster series is a significant way to promote Cayuga County’s national importance.”
The announcement coincides with Harriet Tubman Day (March 10), which commemorates Tubman’s death.
The artwork for the poster was created by Central New York artist David Owens of Owens Illustrations.
You can pick up your free poster starting March 9th at the Equal Rights Heritage Center or by mail. You can contact Tour Cayuga at 315-255-1658.
