Grant funding is once again available for Cayuga County businesses and organizations to promote the legacy of Harriet Tubman.
The Cayuga County Tourism Office’s Harriet Tubman Events Grant helps local groups develop an event, activity, or other program open to the public that provides education, entertainment, or inspiration revolving around Tubman’s life and legacy.
“Cayuga County served as Harriet Tubman’s chosen home for more than fifty years of her life,” said Executive Director of Tour Cayuga, Karen Kuhl. “This grant and the events that it sponsors provide opportunities to honor her legacy. We are beyond proud to support so many incredible organizations working to ensure that Cayuga County continues to celebrate Harriet Tubman and her history here.”
Through last year’s funding, 18 organizations could put on Tubman-related programming. These include Auburn Public Theater, the Booker T Washington Community Center, and the Harriet Tubman Liberation Foundation.
Eligible events can take place from May through December. Applications are open now through April 15 with winners notified on May 9.
