A major upgrade is moving ahead at the City of Auburn Wastewater Treatment Plant, and federal tax credits could help lower the cost.
City Clerk Chuck Mason says the city is working through financing for its $90 million improvement project, which includes installing a new biosolids dryer system. The equipment will dry out the sludge created during the treatment process, reducing how much material has to be hauled away and landfilled.
On Finger Lakes News Radio’s FLX Morning, Mason said tax credits made available through the United States Congress’s Inflation Reduction Act could offset some of the project’s cost, helping ease the burden on local taxpayers.
City officials say the upgrades will modernize operations and provide a more efficient, long-term solution for handling waste.
