What’s the status of Cayuga Community Health Network’s Street Outreach and Advocacy program?
Auburn City Council heard a presentation on the program Thursday by Executive Director Shari Weiss and Director of Housing and Steet Outreach Nicole Gee.
According to their presentation, 66 individuals were helped in 2023 through such services as employment assistance, helping with housing applications and referrals, and financial literacy training. The number of those receiving assistance is expected to grow in 2024.
Speaking on FLX Morning, Auburn City Clerk Chuck Mason says that, while successful, there’s still work to be done in the community.
“It was great to see that there’s such a success with the work being done but unfortunately the other part of the message is that there is a huge demand for their services at the moment, so there’s still lots of work to do,” said Mason.
Started in October 2021, the program seeks to combat homelessness in Cayuga County. It receives funding from both the City of Auburn and Cayuga County. Due to an increase in demand, a second staff person was added in 2023; this position is funded through the United Way and additional sources.
