One local shelter is seeking community support for its pet pantry.
The Finger Lakes SPCA of Central New York’s pet food pantry provides necessary food supplies for pets of owners going through financial difficulties. Speaking with Finger Lakes News Radio, Executive Director Nick Lapresi said the pantry is a vital tool to keep pets with their owners.
“The pet food pantry is for anybody who needs support feeding their animals. Our pet food pantry is stocked solely on the donations that are provided by other community members. It’s a great service we provide.”
The shelter is seeking unopened dog and cat food, both wet and dry. Donations can be left in the shelter’s lobby at 41 York Street in Auburn during regular business hours. The shelter also has a large tote outside (to the left of the double red doors) for after-hours donations.
For those needing to utilize the pantry, Lapresi added that anyone can stop by the shelter during normal business hours. They’ll be asked a few basic questions and then be able to use the pantry once every 90 days.
Over the last month, the SPCA has provided food to 100 community members.
