June is National Adopt a Cat Month and one local animal shelter is making it easier to find your next feline friend.
Finger Lakes SPCA of CNY Executive Director Nick Lapresi: told Finger Lakes News Radio that adult cat adoptions will be half off for the month of June.
“Our main purpose is to find these guys wonderful homes,” said Lapresi, “and looking at our cat population, we do have quite a bit, but sometimes it can be difficult with the adoption fees so we always want to have those opportunities where we’re able to lower those barriers.”
The adoption fee includes the animal’s, spaying or neutering, core vaccinations, microchipping, and parasite treatment.
To help facilitate adoptions, Lapresi added that the Auburn shelter is partnering with Country Max. The store has opened an adoption center at its Clark Street Road location where shoppers can view, meet, and adopt animals being sheltered by the SPCA. He said the store’s support for the shelter has been tremendous.
“They’re really devoted to helping animals in the community,” continued Lapresi. “Country Max decided they are donating all the food to feed the shelter animals.”
Volunteers are needed to staff the Country Max site. If you’d like to volunteer and help take care of animals, you can contact the SPCA at 315-253-5841 and ask for the shelter manager.
A list of animals eligible for adoption can be found at flspcaofcny.org.
