We now know what Southern Cayuga Central School District’s next mascot will be.
The district has announced that The Falcons have beaten out The Knights to represent the district. Voting took place last week with 555 votes cast for Falcons and 305 for Knights.
A committee will now be formed to collaborate with a graphic designer to create the mascot’s appearance.
Last year, community members chose to call themselves The Cougars but the board refused to approve the name because of “a negative connotation associated with it.”
The district had to retire its Chiefs moniker due to a state Education Department ban on using Native American imagery and mascots.
