Sheriff’s Office Warns of Phone Scam

SHARE NOW

The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office is once again warning of a telephone scam where scammers impersonate sheriff’s deputies.

The sheriff’s office said it received multiple reports on Monday from members of the public receiving calls from individuals claiming to be members of the sheriff’s office. They claim the person being called has outstanding warrants or fines that need to be addressed. They then ask that the fines be paid with gift cards, money wires, or other payments.

The sheriff’s office is reminding the public that it does not solicit money or gift cards over the phone. Anyone receiving such a phone call is advised to hang up.

Anyone with questions regarding a suspicious call can contact the office’s non-emergency number at 315 253-1222 or email at [email protected].
