Sheriff’s Office Reminds Snowmobilers of Rules, Responsibilities

SHARE NOW

With snow blanketing the county, the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office is reminding the public that snowmobile trails remain closed until January 2, 2026.

The sheriff’s office is also reminding snowmobilers that Cayuga County’s trail system includes both county-owned routes and those that traverse private property. Trespassing on private property could result in arrest and could see landowners revoke permission for snowmobilers to use their land.

Snowmobilers are required to carry a physical copy of their registration and insurance while operating a snowmobile.

Trail status can be found here. Questions about snowmobiling rules should be directed to Sergeant Field at 315-294-8134 or [email protected].
