Sheriff & CCAC Holding Public Meeting on Substance Abuse

SHARE NOW

Cayuga County residents will have a chance next month to discuss how substance abuse is affecting the community.

The Sheriff’s Office and the Community Collaborative Advisement Committee will hold a community meeting to hear from the public on this issue, something Sheriff Brain Schenck told Finger Lakes News Radio is crucial.

“I hope that [the public will] join us and be part of the discussion in not only identifying problems that we have in our community but what can we do together collaboratively to solve those problems,” Schenck said. “I think it’s key because I learned a long time ago that our law enforcement agency won’t fix these things by ourselves, we don’t do it by ourselves, we’ve got to have that community support.”

Schenck added that the Community Collaborative Advisement Committee began operations in earnest early last year. The committee is made up of people from the county with the goal of helping the sheriff’s office get a better understanding of what concerns and issues residents have.

These are folks that I tapped to help meet with our sheriff’s office periodically to really help get some feedback from those people that we serve,” Schenck said, “so, we look at this committee and this group as a direct link between our sheriff’s office and the citizens of Cayuga County and those that we serve”

This is the first meeting between the committee and the public; however, Schenck added that he hopes these public meetings can become a regular occurrence to allow for more feedback from the community.

While registration is not required, the sheriff’s office is asking you to do so to help the office better prepare. You can register by emailing [email protected] or calling 315-253-3991.

The meeting is scheduled for November 16 at 6:00p at Cayuga Community College.
