A project several years in the making is set to be be completed later this month.
Auburn’s 120-year old Seymour Library are nearing completion has announced it is entering the final stage of repairs to its roof which are expected to be completed by the end of April.
The final phase will see the original skylight removed from the building and replaced with a replica using modern materials and supplies.
Beginning Tuesday and lasting until Saturday, the library’s parking lot will be closed to facilitate the skylight replacement. The building itself will remain open however. Guests are aske to use the Genesee Street entrance.
With the repairs also come upgrades. Additional insulation is expected to reduce heating costs during the colder months while upgrades to the gutter and drain system will also be completed at this time.
During heavy rainstorms water could enter the attic and leak into the library’s center, putting both the building and its collections at risk.
Beginning in 2019 with a building condition survey, the project went to bid in mid-2022. Repairs began last Fall.
Funding was made possible through a 1-million dollar loan secured by the Seymour Library Foundation.
