If you live in the Seymour Library Tax District, you’ll have a chance later this month to vote on the library’s 2024 budget.
The district includes Auburn, Owasco, and the parts of Fleming and Sennett within the Auburn Enlarged City School District.
A public hearing on the budget will be held this Wednesday at 5:00p at the library.
The library is hoping voters will approve the $1,023,170 operating budget, a slight increase from last year. $975,000 of that budget is raised by property taxes. The remainder comes from a combination of donations, state and local aid, foundation income, fees, and other sources.
Seymour Library Director Lisa Carr says she and her staff are able to use grants to keep down operating costs.
“I think we’ve been doing some great work at leveraging that operating budget and increasing the amount of grants that we receive,” Carr told Finger Lakes News Radio. “[People ask] ‘How come you’re spending less money on collections than you’ve spent in previous years?’ And it’s because I can get grants that will help supplement the collections budget whereas it’s really hard to find grants to pay the light bill.”
Sennett and Owasco residents will also be able to vote for trustees to represent their towns on the library’s board of trustees. For the Town of Owasco, William Foster will appear on the ballot and Debra Daloia and Michael McCole will be on the ballot for Sennett.
Voting will be held at the library from 9:00a-7:00p on October 25.
A copy of the proposed budget as well as additional information can be found on the library’s website.
