Seymour Library is now offering Sensory Kits in its Family Space, thanks to a recent grant. The kits are designed to help children who may need extra comfort while visiting the library or participating in programs.
Each kit includes a weighted lap blanket, noise-canceling headphones, sunglasses, fidget toys, a sensory bottle, a chew toy, and a sand timer. Kits are available for use inside the library and can be borrowed and returned at the Family Space desk.
“Our goal is to make the library a welcoming place for everyone,” said Family Space Librarian Jill Hand. “A sensory kit can help in moments of stress. Sometimes the world, even the library, can feel overwhelming, and these tools provide comfort and calm.”
The library hopes the kits will make experiences like storytime more enjoyable, reduce anxiety, and support families with children who are neurodivergent.
