The Seymour Library has announced its proposed 2025 budget and district residents will get to vote on it later this month
Registered voters in Auburn, Owasco, and the parts of Fleming and Sennett in the Auburn Enlarged City School District are able to vote on approving or denying the proposed budget.
For 2025, the library has proposed a budget of $1,100,310, compared to 2024’s operating budget of $1,023,170. To achieve this increase, the library proposes increasing the amount of money it collects in property taxes.
Under the proposed budget, the library district would collect $1043,250 in property taxes, an increase over the $975,000 collected in 2024. This means the estimated library tax for a house with a market value of $100,000 would be $40.73.
Aside from the budget vote, three trustee positions can be voted on with each to serve a four-year term. For Auburn’s trustee, Russell Harkins has submitted a petition; for Fleming, Kimberly Schulze has submitted a petition, and no valid nominating petitions were received for the Owasco trustee position.
In-person voting will take place on Wednesday, October 23, at the library from 9:00a-7:00p. Information on absentee ballot applications can be found on the library’s website.
