The Seward House Museum has completed its multi-year Barn and Carriage House project. The 3.1-million-dollar project, which broke ground in 2023, was initially funded by the Downtown Revitalization Initiative.
The Museum was also awarded grants from: Environmental Protection Fund of the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation; Save America’s Treasures grant through the Historic Preservation Fund of the National Park Service, Department of the Interior; and the City of Auburn via the American Rescue Plan Act (APRA), in addition to private funding. The Contractor was LeChase Construction Services, and the Architect was Jack Alvarez of Landmark Consulting. Martha Lyon was the landscape architect.
The two 1860 buildings on the 33 South Street property now house a multi-purpose event space in the barn and new staff office spaces on the upper level of the carriage house. The main floor of the carriage house will ultimately serve as an exhibition space for William H. Seward’s Wood Brothers’ carriage, which is currently being conserved and is expected to be installed this fall.
The community is invited to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11:00 am on May 16th. This date also marks the birthday of William H. Seward.
