With a new legislative session underway in Albany, what are the chances that State Senator Rachel May’s Bigger Better Bottle Bill will become law? Speaking on FLX Morning with Ted Baker, the senator for the 48th district said she’s optimistic for its passage in 2025.
“All the players, the bottlers, the distributers, and the small businesses that would have to collect the bottles are starting to come to the table and recognize that we have to do this.”
Senator May’s proposal includes raising the bottle deposit from five to ten cents as well as adding additional containers, such as wine and liquor bottles, to the state’s redeemable bottle list.
Last June, the senator announced that an agreement could not be reached on a two-house bottle bill.
