A former Auburn official who now serves as a Cayuga County legislator has been accused of bullying, absenteeism, and other misconduct.
The Auburn Citizen reports Stephanie DeVito, the former executive director of the Auburn Downtown Business Improvement District, was the subject of three complaints to the organization’s board of directors by colleagues last year. The complaints accuse her of creating a toxic work environment; working as few as three to five hours a week; using her position to advance her campaign for the County Legislature; and spending BID funds at her discretion.
The Citizen obtained the records of DeVito’s employment as a result of a lawsuit the newspaper filed against the BID.
DeVito calls the complaints a “witch hunt” to attack her as she was running for County Legislature.
She resigned from her role at the BID in April.
