2023 was a record year for attendance at New York State Parks but those in the Cayuga County saw a dip in visitors.
According to data released by New York, state parks, historic sites, campgrounds, and trails saw over 84 million visits last year, a six percent increase compared to 2022. The same can’t be said for the three state parks in Cayuga County.
Fillmore Glen State Park in Moravia saw just over 104,083 visits last year, down from 110,576 in 2022. Fair Haven State Park, located on Lake Ontario, saw its attendance drop from 217,179 in 2022 to 184,898 in 2023. Long Point State Park on Cayuga Lake saw 41,457 visits in 2023; that’s down from 2022’s total of 63,264.
Statewide 2023 was the 11th straight year of increased park attendance.
With 2024 marking the 100th anniversary of New York State parks, the state is hoping to see another rise in attendance due to special programming being launched throughout the year, such as the Share Your Story project.
