The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Region 7 Bureau of Fisheries biologists are hosting a public meeting Thursday in Auburn to highlight Owasco Lake fisheries and discuss with anglers the management actions and research taking place on the lake and its tributaries. DEC’s Finger Lakes Watershed Program staff will provide an update on ongoing water quality and watershed protection initiatives.
Thursday’s meeting will be held in the Finger Lakes Mall Community Room starting at 6:30 p.m. Registration is not required to attend.
Formal presentations are expected to last approximately one hour. An informal question-and-answer session related to Owasco Lake’s fisheries and water quality will follow DEC presentations. Please note the host facility closes promptly at 9 p.m.
DEC annually stocks Owasco Lake and Inlet with trout. The ongoing Angler Diary Cooperator Program for gamefish provides DEC fisheries staff with useful data on population trends. Information on the Angler Diary Cooperator Program and recent reports are available on DEC’s website. DEC is continually seeking new cooperators and invites interested volunteers to contact Region 7 Fisheries staff at (607) 753-3095 or [email protected].
Owasco Lake anglers and all fishing enthusiasts are also encouraged to visit DEC’s ‘Tackle Box’ feature in the HuntFishNY App, which provides anglers one-stop shopping for waterbody-specific information on fishing regulations, stocking, and fishing/boating access sites.
