A public hearing tonight will let Cayuga County residents weigh in on the county’s hotel occupancy tax.
The county legislature will hold the hearing at 6:00p at its monthly legislature meeting. Following the hearing, the legislature will vote on whether or not to keep the tax for another three years.
A hotel occupancy tax, also known as a bed or room tax, is a tax on each night’s stay at a hotel, motel, or Airbnb-style rental.
The county currently has a 5% hotel occupancy tax.
Those wishing to speak at the hearing can call 315-294-8051.
Earlier this month, the City of Auburn passed a resolution requesting the county split the hotel occupancy tax revenue generated within the city with Auburn. The city would use the money to assist in funding its Historic and Cultural Sites Commission tourism promotion and development programs.
