Port Byron Thruway Stop Reopens

SHARE NOW

The Port Byron Service area has reopened.

Located between exits 40 and 41 on I-90 East, the stop includes a Burger King, Dunkin’ (Drive-Thru), Applegreen C Store, and Taste NY food and drink products. Other amenities include a dog walking area, a private nursing area, and outdoor seating. A digital tourism kiosk and four electric vehicle charging stations are planned to be added at a later date.

This is the 14th rest stop to reopen, marking the halfway point for the thruway authority’s project to modernize all 27 service areas. Nearby rest stops have already reopened, including the Seneca, Clifton Springs, and Junius Ponds Service Areas.

Thruway Authority Acting Executive Director Frank G. Hoare, Esq. said,“In 2024, the Thruway is celebrating its 70th anniversary as one of the safest and most reliable toll roads in the nation and we are committed to continually modernizing our system, including our service areas. Many of these buildings were original to the Thruway system in the 1950s and in need of major repair. The Service Area Redesign and Redevelopment Project represents a $450 million public private partnership, funded by a private investment and no toll or tax dollars are being used for construction. Once completed, the new service areas will enhance the customer experience with a wider variety of improved dining options and other amenities while traveling.”

With the Port Bryon location now open, the Dewitt Service Area will be closed for work. Fuel services will remain open at every location during construction.

It is estimated that 25 of the 27 stops will be completed by the end of the year.
