Weed harvesting on Owasco Lake will begin next week.
The Cayuga County Soil and Water Conservation District’s Aquatic Vegetation Control program helps prevent navigation issues caused by aquatic vegetation and from degrading swimming areas and use of the lake.
People with property along the lake are asked to mark their waterlines, preferably along a dock to reduce the likelihood of the harvesting boats making contact and damaging the system. Those who don’t want their areas harvested are asked to mark their area with a sign or red flag and contact the Cayuga County SWCD office at 315-252-4171 to make a no-harvesting request.
Additionally, anyone who knows any fields or land where weeds can be dumped, especially along the east side of the lake, is asked to contact the Cayuga County SWCD as well.
The harvesting schedule begins on Monday.
