Owasco Lake has seen its first Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) of the season.
Doctor Adam Effler with the Owasco Lake Watershed Management Council told Finger Lakes News Radio that the event occurred last Sunday (June 25) near Conklin Cove.
He added that observations of HABs are on the rise throughout the Finger Lakes.
“Generally, year over year, observations of HABs are increasing throughout the eastern Finger Lakes region, really across the Finger Lakes,” Effler said. “It’s important that we continue to surveil these lakes and document these harmful algal blooms.”
