The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal house fire that occurred over the weekend in the Town of Fleming.

The fire occurred at 6:27a on Sunday at 5520 Silver Street Road, the office said.

According to Sheriff Brian Schenck, a preliminary investigation indicated that the fire started in the basement. The owner, Robert Glover, was able to leave the house and call 911; however, when first responders arrived, he was found unconscious outside the front door.

Sheriff’s deputies and EMS performed life-saving measures before Glover was taken to Auburn Community Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.

The office added that the preliminary investigation has not led investigators to believe the cause of the fire is suspicious, but officials are still working to determine the fire’s cause.

The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by the New York State Police, New York State Fire, Cayuga County 911, Fleming Fire Department, Owasco Fire Department, Aurelius Fire Department, Auburn Fire Department, Sennett Fire Department, Cayuga County Emergency Management Office, Throop Fire Department, Moravia Fire Department, Skaneateles Fire Department, Cayuga County Rehab team, Cayuga County Coroner’s Office, and the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office.
