A dozen departments helped to put out a Sunday morning barn fire in Cayuga County.
The Genoa Fire Department responded to the McAllister Road location just after six where they found animals inside the structure with the fire threatening to extend to another building.
Additional resources were requested and evacuation of cattle trapped in the barn began.
Handlines were deployed to prevent the fire from spreading before a master stream could be used to help extinguish the blaze.
Upon arrival, tankers shuttled water to three fill sites.
The fire was able to be contained to the original building with Genoa units able to return to service at approximately 11:00a.
Additional departments assisting included King Ferry, Locke Fire & Rescue, Moravia, Scipio, Long Hill, Poplar Ridge, Aurora, Sempronius, Lansing, Groten, and New Hope fire departments. Southern Cayuga Instant Aid and Four Town Ambulance were also at the scene.
