A Cayuga County man will serve over three years in federal prison for having an unregistered short-barreled rifle.
According to the US Attorney’s Office, 54-year-old Duane Hollenbeck of Moravia pled guilty to possessing an AR-15 style rifle with a barrel less than 16 inches in length. Under federal law, short-barreled rifles must be registered in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record.
He, along with 19-year-old Alec Hollenbeck of Lincklaen, Chenango County, was arrested last year after an investigation by State Troopers found the pair to be in possession of numerous ghost guns and large-capacity magazines, not compliant with state law.
The elder Hollenbeck was sentenced Friday by Chief United States District Judge Brenda Sannesto to 41 months in prison followed by three years post-release supervision.
