Students at the Moravia Central School District’s Millard Fillmore Elementary School will begin leaving school early on Wednesdays, the district announced.
Beginning on January 7, students who walk to and from school will be released at 2:00p on Wednesdays, while those taking buses will leave at 2:10p. This means those utilizing buses will arrive home approximately 25-30 minutes early on Wednesdays, compared to the rest of the school week.
After-school programs will adjust their start times on Wednesdays to coincide with the earlier dismissal times.
The district announced that early dismissal on Wednesdays will replace the current system employed at the elementary school, where substitutes are used, and “ensures that teachers have dedicated, uninterrupted time for Professional Learning.” By providing professional learning for teachers, the district said this will improve classroom instruction and help teachers support their students.
It added that Wednesdays were chosen for Millard Fillmore Elementary, as they are already early-release days at the secondary level, improving transportation efficiency.
Anyone with questions about the change is encouraged to contact the elementary school office and/or the transportation department.
