The Wall That Heals will not be set up at Falcon Park this Thursday as previously planned.
Kevin Swab with the Cayuga County Veterans Service Agency told Finger Lakes News Radio that the 3/4 scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington DC and accompanying mobile education center will now be set up at nearby Casey Park instead. The move will allow the wall to be better secured to the ground.
The Wall That Heals will be at Casey Park behind the swimming pool at the softball field and be viewable 24 hours daily from Thursday through Sunday.
Swab adds a motorcycle escort will lead the wall to the park on Tuesday. It is expected to arrive at its destination at approximately 1:45p. An opening ceremony will then be held on Thursday at 8:30a, and a closing ceremony will take place at 1:30p on Sunday.
Medal of Honor recipient and Cayuga County native Robert Stryker is honored on the wall. Born in Auburn and buried in Throop’s Pine Hill Cemetery, Stryker lost his life when he threw himself on an enemy claymore on November 7, 1967 during the conflict.
