Another official in Cayuga County is advocating for the health of Owasco Lake.

Aileen McNabb-Coleman currently serves on the Cayuga County Legislature for District Six and is seeking to be elected to the new District Five following redistricting. Speaking on FLX Morning, McNabb-Coleman said the lake’s health is the primary concern of her constituents, specifically harmful algal blooms.

“This is the defining issue,” she said. “We have to come up with some funding and get some attention to understand how we can tackle the issues with best management practices for small and midsized farms to understand what we need to combat the issues of harmful alga blooms.”

McNabb-Coleman added that she supports any effort to protect the lake, including the push for a Total Maximum Daily Load for the lake.

For the past eight years, the democratic legislator has served as the Vice Chair of the Owasco Lake Watershed Management Council.
