Former Assemblyman Gary D. Finch who represented parts of Cayuga County and Central New York has died.
Finch, 79, died Friday, according to Sammuel Darling, director of Brew Funeral Home, a business Finch once owned.
Finch, who was born in Auburn, was first elected to public office as a village of Aurora trustee in 1979. He retired in 2020 from the N.Y.S. Assembly after 10 terms in office.
A funeral will be held Friday at Saint Mary’s Church in Auburn at 11:00a followed by a burial at Saint Joseph’s Cemetery. There will be no visitation hours. Brew Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Gary Finch was a mentor and guide to me, beginning when I first took office. He told me I didn’t have to worry about filling someone else’s shoes — I just had to walk in my own. Gary never sought recognition for himself. He served only to help others. I will miss him. pic.twitter.com/VUYWzpRzHY
