A new competition hopes to raise money for one local fire department.
In conjunction with FLX Cornhole and Scott’s Custom Cornhole Boards, the Aurelius Volunteer Fire Department will hold its first annual Cornhole Tournament next month at the Fingerlakes Mall.
Scott Carey, the owner of Scott’s Custom Cornhole Boards, told Finger Lakes News Radio the event came together after friends of his in the department asked him to help organize a fundraiser. He reached out to FLX Cornhole, a club that puts on tournaments throughout the Finger Lakes, and they were able to secure a date at the mall’s event center.
Carey added that the tournament will consist of two thirty-team brackets – a Social Bracket for casual players and a Competitive Bracket for seasoned players. According to Carey, the latter bracket has already seen people sign up from across the Finger Lakes and Central New York.
More than just a competition, the event will be a full day of family fun.
“We’re going to have food and prizes. We’re going to serve hotdogs and hamburgers. They’re going to have refreshments; they’re going to have a 50/50, and they’re going to try to get some door prizes. Really, it’s going to be a family event,” Carey said.
The First Annual Aurelius Volunteer Fire Department Cornhole Tournament will take place on March 23 with the competition starting at noon. Registration for the event can be done through the Scoreholio app. For more information, you can contact Carey at 315-730-5771.
