As holiday shopping is underway, one climate activist group is preparing to reduce packing waste.
Cayuga Climate Action will be collecting clean, white polystyrene foam (styrofoam) to be properly recycled by Thermal Foams in Cicero. Polystyrene is not recyclable curbside in Cayuga County. Packing peanuts, multi-colored foam, food containers, and meat trays will not be accepted.
Beginning Thursday, styrofoam can be dropped off at the Weedsport Public Works facility at 2621 Earl Street on Thursdays from 9:00a-3:00p and Saturdays from 7:00a-3:00p until January 10. Additionally, on January 10, from 10:00a-1:00p, Riesters Appliances, 1533 Clark Street Rd, Auburn, and Southern Cayuga Instant Aid, 2530 State Route 34B, Poplar Ridge, will accept styrofoam for recycling.
