Auburn’s state assemblyman wants to hear from you about the city’s plan to implement a 5% hotel occupancy tax.
In a Facebook post, Assemblyman John Lemondes said he’s asking residents to send him letters or emails about whether or not they support the proposal which would see a tax on each night’s stay at a hotel, motel, or Air B&B style rental in the city.
For the tax to be implemented, both Assemblyman Lemondes and State Senator Rachel May would need to put forth Home Rule legislation for the city in their respective houses, something May has already done.
Lemondes will also hold a public meeting with City Council on Thursday at 7:00p to discuss the proposed tax.
If you’d like to reach out to the assemblyman, you can email him at [email protected] or send a letter to his Auburn office:
Assemblyman John Lemondes
69 South Street
Auburn, NY 13021
In the post, Lemondes included the December letter from then-Mayor Mike Quill and Mayor-elect Jimmy Giannettino asking him to introduce the Home Rule legislation. A copy of the letter can be found below.
