7:00 p.m. UPDATE:
According to Cayuga County Undersheriff Stuart Peenstra, the initial complaint was received at 1:05 PM on December 15th. A deputy observed several dogs chained to objects around the property, with limited mobility and no access to food or water. The dogs also appeared to be underfed and emaciated. The deputy immediately began an investigation in partnership with the Finger Lakes SPCA of Central New York.
On December 18th, the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office and Finger Lakes SPCA of Central New York executed a search warrant directing the seizure of all animals on the property. As a result of this action, the Finger Lakes SPCA of Central New York has taken custody of the following animals:
- 7 rabbits
- 2 snakes
- 1 gerbil
- 1 guinea pig
- 1 turtle
- 17 dogs
- 2 cats
- 2 pigs
- 3 chickens
The investigation has been turned over to the Humane Law Enforcement Officer at the Finger Lakes SPCA of Central New York.
The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the Finger Lakes SPCA of Central New York, executed a seizure warrant last Thursday, resulting in what the SPCA called “the removal of a significant number of animals.”
The Finger Lakes SPCA is now caring for the animals, with a focus on their health, safety, and well-being. Due to the high intake and the immediate medical and care needs, the organization will operate with limited hours while staff and volunteers conduct assessments and provide treatment.
“We are deeply grateful for the patience and support of our community as our board, staff, and volunteers work to ensure these animals receive the care they need,” the SPCA said in a statement.
The organization is asking for public support to help provide medical care, nutrition, and daily care for the animals. Donations can be made here.
Further updates on the animals and SPCA operations will be shared as information becomes available.
