Auburn’s newest summer festival is changing its inaugural date.
The Downtown Chicken Wing Festival was originally set for this Saturday; however, it is now being postponed until August 5th.
Speaking with Finger Lakes News Radio, Business Improvement District (BID) Executive Director Stephanie DeVito said the decision came from an influx of applications from across the Finger Lakes and beyond.
“We had an abundance of vendors that were interested in participating in the festival,” DeVito said, “and we just needed more time to accommodate all the vendors that were looking to come from the region so we decided it was in the best interest to move it back a little bit so we could give more opportunity to participate.”
DeVito added that vendors are coming from as far away as Ithaca, Syracuse, and Rochester to participate.
Other aspects of the festival, which is a collaboration between the BID and 315 Live Entertainment, will remain the same. Genesee Street will be flooded with music, food, a basketball shooting competition, craft and artisan vendors, and family friendly activities.
For the chicken wing competition, recipes from across the Finger Lakes region and beyond will be judged in three different categories; dry, sauced, and regular recipe. There will also be a people’s choice award. Craft and food vendors will also be lined up on Genesee Street. Live music will also be provided and family friendly activities such as a basketball shooting competition are also planned.
