Hoopes Park Pond Wall Restoration Work to Begin Monday

SHARE NOW

Restoration work on the pond wall at Auburn’s Hoopes Park is set to begin Monday.

The project will see the pond drained, allowing equipment to enter and remove sediment that has collected on the bottom over several years. Workers will also investigate what is causing the failure of the southwestern pond wall and make necessary repairs to it.

It is believed that the original wall construction at the pond began in the 1920s.

The city has contracted with Cayuga County Soil and Water (CCSW) for the project. CCSW anticipated completing the project in three to four weeks; however, weather conditions could cause delays.

The pond had previously been dredged in 2007 and 2014.

While the park will remain open during this time, sections near where construction is occurring will be closed off.

The project was partially funded by a $150,000 SAM Grant that John Mannion secured when he was Auburn’s state senator in 2021.
