A GoFundMe fundraiser has been established to support a Skaneateles family displaced by a destructive house fire that claimed two family pets and destroyed nearly everything they owned.
The fire broke out shortly after noon Tuesday at a home on County Line Road near Andrews Road in the Onondaga County town of Skaneateles. According to the Cayuga/Seneca Fire Wire, the two-alarm blaze drew crews from Sennett, Throop, Owasco, Skaneateles, Moravia, West Niles, New Hope, and Fleming took about two hours to bring under control.
The homeowner, Tom Evans, and his children, Thomas and Ruby, lost all of their personal belongings in the fire. The family also lost two dogs, described on the GoFundMe page as “truly part of their family.” The blaze also destroyed the belongings of Evans’ 86-year-old mother, who lived in the home, along with tools and equipment Evans used in his business.
Organizers of the fundraiser say the family has been displaced and is facing both emotional and financial hardship in the aftermath of the fire. Evans, who is also a Skaneateles firefighter, is now relying on community support as the family works to recover.
The cause of the fire has not yet been released.
