Thanks to the generosity of Cayuga County residents, urgently needed supplies are helping those affected by Hurricanes Helene and Milton.
The Union Springs Girls Basketball Program and Palooza Basketball Program held their “Help Us, Help Others – Stuff the Truck Campaign” hurricane relief drive over the past week with the goal of filling a 53′ tractor-trailer with goods such as clothing, personal hygiene items, emergency supplies, and pet food to be sent to victims in the southern United States.
Over 40 pallets of goods were collected from over 170 participants, according to the school district.
“The outpouring of donations—items, money, and volunteer support—has been nothing short of incredible,” said Head Varsity Coach Andy Kalet. “Doing the right thing and being a good person is contagious.”
The goods are being sent to a distribution center in Bristol, Tennessee. Once at the center, items will be distributed to hurricane victims in North Carolina and Tennessee.
