Genoa Barn Damaged by Wednesday Fire

SHARE NOW

Firefighters had to battle strong winds in addition to a barn fire in southern Cayuga County Wednesday night.

According to a Facebook post by the Genoa Fire Department, crews responded to Blakley Road just before 7:30p for the reported fire. Once on scene, additional resources were requested to combat the blaze.

Crews from Scipio, King Ferry, Aurora, Poplar Ridge, Long Hill, Locke, Lansing, Moravia, Union Springs, and Sempronius Fire Departments responded, helping to ferry water to the scene. Three fill sites were established to fill the tankers used in fighting the fire.

Despite the high winds, the fast-moving fire was able to be contained to the barn.

Genoa units returned to service around 1:00a on Thursday.

Southern Cayuga Ambulance, Cayuga County 911, the Emergency Management Office, and the Sheriff’s Office also assisted.
