A public ceremony and ribbon cutting on Thursday marked the completion of major renovations to the City of Auburn’s Water Filtration Slow Sand Filter Building.

This marks the first significant improvements to the facility since its opening. Originally built in 1917-1918 by JE Bunting Co of Flushing, NY, the renovations and upgrades began in 2022 and were engineered by GHD Consulting Services Inc.

The overwhelming majority of funding for the project came from a state Water Infrastructure Improvement grant.

Speaking on FLX Morning with Ted Baker, City Clerk Chuck Mason said the city anticipates the renovations will allow the city to get at least 50 more years of use at the site before additional work may be needed.
