Former Auburn School Board President Temporarily Rejoins Board

SHARE NOW

A familiar face is returning to the Auburn Enlarged City School District’s Board of Education—though only briefly.

Ian Phillips, who previously served as board president, was appointed Wednesday night to fill the seat left vacant by Freddie Wilson III, who resigned earlier this month for health-related reasons.

Phillips will serve on an interim basis until the upcoming election on May 20. Per state law, Wilson’s replacement must be elected at that time, alongside three other open seats with full three-year terms. Wilson had one year remaining in his term.

Phillips originally served on the board from 2018 until stepping down in 2024 to run for the New York State Assembly.
