A small fire broke out Friday at the former Bombardier Transportation facility on Orchard Street in Auburn, prompting a swift response from local emergency crews.
Cayuga County 911 dispatchers received reports of smoke and flames near a transformer on the roof of 151 Orchard St. shortly after the initial alert. The Auburn Fire Department arrived on the scene within two minutes and found light smoke and a small fire on the roofline of an attached structure on the building’s north side.
Firefighters used the aerial ladder from Engine 4 to access the roof and extinguish the flames. The fire was brought under control within 10 minutes.
NYSEG was called in to cut power to the electrical wires leading into the building, which are believed to be the potential source of the fire. No injuries were reported, and the cause remains under investigation.
Auburn Police and Auburn Ambulance assisted Auburn Fire at the scene.
