Developers Present Plans for Future Use of Auburn’s Hunter Dinerant

SHARE NOW

A group of developers, led by the owner of the Auburn Bagel Company, have proposed a $4.8 million renovation project to rehabilitate and reopen the Hunter Dinerant while keeping it in its iconic location on Genesee Street, where it has stood since 1951. The plan, presented at last night’s Auburn City Council meeting, includes temporarily removing the diner to rebuild its river supports before returning it to its original spot. City Clerk Chuck Mason said the city would love to activity in that area again.

The developers are seeking $1 million in funding through the Restore NY Communities Initiative to help finance the project. The City, which currently owns the diner following a tax foreclosure, has not yet voted on the grant application.
