City Approves Concrete Pad for Auburn’s Wall Street Playground Pavilion

The Auburn City Council has approved a $29,300 change order for Wall Street Park, allowing the installation of a large concrete pad that will support a new pavilion shelter at the west end playground.

City officials say the project is part of Phase II of Wall Street Playground, which began last year and has been well-received by the neighborhood. The playground improvements are funded through the federal Community Development Block Grant Program, aimed at enhancing local recreational spaces.

During last week’s council meeting, city staff explained that the change order with Paul F. Vitale, Inc. was the most cost-effective way to complete the concrete pad while the contractor, along with construction consultant Saratoga Associates, is already on site. The work will provide a durable base for the pavilion, completing one of the final pieces of the playground upgrade.

The original Phase II project was awarded in September at $116,348.53, and the new change order brings additional improvements to the park while keeping the project within the grant budget. The council voted unanimously to approve the resolution, and the mayor has been authorized to execute all related construction documents.

City officials say the finished playground, with its new pavilion, will offer residents a fully upgraded, welcoming space for community recreation and events.
