One local environmental group is holding its first repair fair in Cayuga County this weekend.
With the help of Sew What and Auburn Public Theater, Cayuga Climate Action, a free repair fair will be held on Saturday from 9:00a-12:00p at the theater
Dominic Gambaiani with the group told Finger Lakes News Radio that attendees can bring small appliances, fabrics, and other easy-to-carry belongings such as vacuum cleaners to the theater where volunteers will help repair the items or provide directions on where one can go to have items repaired if they cannot be repaired at the event.
“[Participants] can meet with our fixers and we can brainstorm how to fix things, prolong their life and usefulness, and keep them out of the landfill,” said Gambaiani.
By fixing items that would otherwise be sent to a landfill, Cayuga Climate Action hopes to reduce consumer waste in Cayuga County.
Anyone interested in volunteering to fix items can email Gambaiani at [email protected] for information on how to participate.
Gambaiani added that participants are asked to enter through Cafe 108 where they’ll be directed into the theater’s Stage Right.
