Auburn City Council will receive an update on the plan to repair the pond wall at Hoopes Park.
Superintendent of Public Works Mike Talbot will go over the structural issues of the pond wall as well as issues with sediment and nutrient loading at Thursday’s City Council meeting.
The city has already secured $150,000 through the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York to address these issues. Work will focus on the southwestern section of the wall to address erosion and deterioration issues.
As for the sediment and nutrient loading, there are a few options. A new meandering stream path could created to reduce sediment collection or structures could be installed to collect sediment before it enters the pond.
Work is anticipated to occur this winter.
It is believed the original wall construction at the pond began in the 1920s. It was dredged in 2007 and 2014.
